Live the Legend, drive your dream…

The legend continues

The first Liege Rome Liege was run in 1931 and was organized by the Automobil Club of Liege Motor Union, now exactly eighty years later the legend continues. Back then, unpaved mountain roads formed the test track for various car manufacturers who wanted to prove their cars abilities to the public. The event was filled with thrills, excitement and glory. Glorious winners like Pat Moss, Erik Carlson, Pascal Ixck and Eugen Bohringer became world famous.

Agreement has now been reached between the Royal Automobil Club of Belgium (RACB) and Classic Events to put the revival of the legendary Liege Rome Liege back on the Historic Motorsport calendar. Classic Events, with an impressive number of high quality events to its name, will organize the forthcoming event.

“The Royal Automobil Club of Belgium is excited to have a professional organization to run the event”, says Mr Frédéric Mayens. Mr Bart Rietbergen is equally pleased to be able to add this event to the likes of the Winter Trial, Carrera Copacabana, Trial to the Nile and the Himalaya Trial.

This August the Liege Rome Liege 2011 will be run as a regularity event for cars built before 1968. The start is on August 28 2011 in Liege at the same holy ground of the events in the past, Palais des Princes Evêques and the finish is in Rome on Friday September 2. The length of the route is approximately 2200 km.
Classic Events takes pride in its formula that guarantees sportsmanship as well as camaraderie.  It is for this reason that we will stick to a maximum number of eighty entries.  Join us to celebrate the 80th birthday of the Liege, and enjoy the magic of this unique event.

The running of the Rally

Liege Rome Liege is meant to be the ultimate rally for pre-war cars, participating, camaraderie  and the sights and sounds of the lovely old cars are the most important ingredients of this magic event. Experienced service crews will follow the rally to make sure that nobody gets stranded. They are there to get you going again when you are stuck, and not to do your daily maintenance.

The route

Burning rubber, the smell of working engines, great rock formations, blue sky’s and clear blue lakes are just a few of the many ingredients that make the flavor is this event. There is no night driving and we will take 6 days to reach our finale, driving into Rome with the guidance of a famous Italian Police motorcycle escort. If you have never experienced this before, we can tell you that this by itself is a good reason for doing the event. We can give away that the start will be in Liege and we will go over the Stelvio and Gavia pass and finish in glorious Rome. See the Route page for more details, or here for a map view. Our Liege Rome Liege news letter will update you about the recce progress.

Two routes

..great views, winding climbs
The routes are carefully chosen. Great views, spectacular winding climbs and away from daily traffic, speed traps, traffic lights, ques, busses and speed bumbs. You will explore the best possible route through the inner lands of Belgium, France, Germany, Austria and Italy. Motoring as it should be.
The Trial route caters for the crews that want to fight for the title, like to compete and love to do some tests, regularity sections and hill climbs. The Club route will drive the full route, visit the controls but there is no time pressure or competition element.

Hotels

The Classic Events motto, “the best available”, also goes for the carefully selected hotels. But bear in mind that we also seek the best available rally routes, which are not always where the fairytale hotels can be found.

Who can take part

Everybody in the possession of a car first build before December 31 1968 can take part. No competition license is required.

Entrees
